The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has released its preliminary totals for the 2018 firearm deer season.

In the seven day second season that ended Sunday, just over 22,000 deer were harvested statewide.

Once again, Adams and Pike counties were among the leaders in the second season, ranking second and third among Illinois counties, harvesting 693 and 692 deer, respectively.

Adding in the November firearm season, Illinois hunters bagged about 800 more deer this year than in 2017.

There were a total of 2,340 deer harvested in Adams County for the two seasons, with 2,053 deer bagged in Pike County. That’s an increase of about 160 in Adams County and an increase of about 60 in Pike County from a year ago.
