A Bowling Green man who admitted to stealing food and other items from a home near Ashburn has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. 31-year-old Mark Helms admitted Thursday to burglary, theft and unlawful possession of a firearm in the February First incident.

A rural Ashburn resident reported being awakened when a burglar turned on a bedroom light. Deputies found food missing from the victim’s refrigerator. Jewelry, money, a firearm and other items also were taken.

Authorities said they arrested Helms as he walked through a field near the intersection of Highway 79 and Pike County Road 117 south of Ashburn.
