Western Illinois Fair Grandstand Damaged in Strong Storms
Officials with the Western Illinois Fair say strong storms that moved through the state earlier this week toppled the top half of its grandstand.
Lynn Freeman is the fair's executive secretary. He says that it will take much of the next year to recover from Monday night's storms. He says the grandstand's new bleachers were spared but a large section of the roof was splintered and fallen.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that fair officials are working with its insurance company to start replacing the top of the grandstand, which is in Griggsville.
This year's fair already happened. Next year's fair is scheduled for late June.
Freeman says it's fortunate no one was hurt and that the damage could have been worse.
