University of Missouri Estimates State Losing Millions on Online Sales Tax Revenues
University of Missouri researchers estimate that the state is losing out on a possible $468 million in annual online sales tax revenues. The researchers say Missouri would help its cause by joining other states that have signed a 1999 agreement to simplify and encourage retailers to voluntarily collect the sales taxes. But they say the better long-term solution is for Missouri lawmakers to lobby Congress to pass new federal legislation.
