A Springfield Illinois man faces charges following a high speed pursuit in northeast Missouri late Sunday night.

Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies say 48 year old Clifford Dougherty is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument. Dougherty is held in the Lewis County Jail on 10-thousand dollars cash only bond. Deputies say Dougherty was stopped after a Canton Police officer notified them about an erratic driver on Missouri 16. Dougherty is accused of fleeing south on US 61 and trying to damage a deputy’s vehicle. He was apprehended along McMasters Avenue in Hannibal.
