New Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has tapped a Quincy man as a member of his cabinet.

Rauner’s office announced over the weekend that Jeff Mays would be appointed to head the state Department of Employment Security.

Mays represented the 96th District in the Illinois House from 1981 to 1990.

Since then, Mays has held positions with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State Chamber of Commerce.

He is currently the President of the Illinois Business Roundtable and is Vice-President of the Quincy Public School Board.
