The first official event of Pike County Missouri’s bicentennial celebration took place Monday.

The Pike County Bicentennial Commission began the sixteen month observance with a tree planting on the courthouse lawn in Bowling Green.

The Prairie Fire Flowering Crabapple tree, purchased from Stark Brothers Nurseries and Orchards in Louisiana, was planted by members of the Pike County Commission.

According to Bicentennial Commission member Brent Engle, the celebration will include a number of events for all ages, one of which is an oral history project.

The celebration runs through December of 2018. For more information, you can go to the Pike County Bicentennial Commission Facebook Page.
