New Details Emerge in Hannibal Shooting

New details are available in the November 20 robbery and shooting of a Hannibal man in the 1700 block of Park Avenue.

A Probable Cause Statement from Hannibal Police says John Newman and Thomas Willemarck armed themselves with guns obtained from Willemarck’s residence and the mother of a juvenile involved in the incident. The three males along with Stephanie Pettitt traveled on foot to an address in the 1700 block of Park Avenue. The police report indicates Pettitt acted as a lookout while the three males went to the house. The Probable Cause statement indicates that Newman knocked on the door and shot the victim in the abdomen when he opened the door. The victim was able to close the door and entry was not made to the residence. All four individuals then fled the scene. Newman is said to have hidden the gun and then transported it to Quincy where he disposed of it in the Mississippi River.
