(CLARKSVILLE)--  Things are starting to get back to normal in Clarksville, at least as normal as can be expected with a five-foot-tall levee along Front Street.    Just a few volunteers from Americorps remained after a weekend that saw water levels on the Mississippi River continue to drop. However, flood-fighters promised to remain vigilant after forecasts of heavy rains to the north.

As it stands, the river level was 31-point-four feet at Clarksville on Monday, down almost four feet from last week’s crest. However, the river isn’t expected to drop below flood stage until the weekend, and that’s without more rainfall.

The Champ Clark Bridge re-opened to traffic last Friday and Highway 79 was re-opened between Clarksville and Louisiana. South of Clarksville, Highway 79 remained closed in places Monday.
