Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was in Macomb Thursday to announce grant funding to improve and increase services for sexual assault survivors in western Illinois.

Specifically, Madigan announced a nearly half-million dollar grant to develop a five-county Regional Rural Sexual Assault Response Team over the next three years in Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough and Schuyler counties.

This new response team will include sexual assault nurse examiners, trained sexual assault victim advocates and trained law enforcement officers and prosecutors.

Madigan wants to improve the reporting of sexual assault crimes to authorities.
