It's obvious that Macy's is trying to execute a massive overhaul to try and save its business. The company just announced that 150 more stores will be closing. The question for Missouri is if (or how many) stores in the state will be affected.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Macy's CEO announced in an earnings call that the company "needs to shrink". That shrinking will include the imminent closure of another 150 stores. The good news (sort of) is that they plan to do "upgrades" on the stores that will remain open.

The Columbia, Missouri Macy's closed several years ago, but many still remain open (as of now) in the state including these stores:

  • Macy's - 1550 St Louis Galleria St, Richmond Heights
  • Macy's - 1550 St Louis Galleria St, Richmond Heights
  • Macy's - 10 S County Center Way, St. Louis
  • Macy's - 2 W County Center, Des Peres
  • Macy's - 400 NW Barry Rd Ste 150, Kansas City
  • Macy's - 2825 S Glenstone Ave Suite 100, Springfield
  • Macy's - 154 THF Blvd, Chesterfield
  • Macy's Backstage - 1550 St Louis Galleria St, Richmond Heights
  • Macy's Backstage - 10 S County Center Way, St. Louis
  • Macy's Backstage - 2 W County Center, Des Peres

As of this writing, Macy's has NOT announced which specific locations in Missouri will be a part of this new closure. As this is a developing story, it will be updated once new information is available.

It's clear that with the many retail closures already announced in 2024, that this will be another challenging year for legacy brick and mortar store locations and companies.
