5th grade, 8th grade and high school art students in Hannibal will be honored during the closing reception of 'Young Masters,' an annual art exhibit on display through April 29 at the Hannibal Arts Council.

The reception will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 South Main Street. Five students from each grade level will win $25 awards and have their work exhibited in F&M Bank's Broadway branch lobby.

Students from the following art instructors have pieces in the show: Tara Jacobs (Veterans), Cassie Sullivan (Mark Twain), Amber Barron (Oakwood), Michele Dent (Eugene Field), Stephen Schisler (Stowell), Shelly Lowe (Holy Family), Sarah Courtney (HMS) and Susan Friesen, James Zimmerman and Christina Strode (Hannibal High School).

“Each art instructor was given a set number of pieces to be included in the exhibit, so the art instructors had the really tough job.  We just got to show off the pieces,” said Michael Gaines, HAC Executive Director.  “Young Masters is an opportunity to recognize student work, inspire and nurture the next generation of artists and support the arts instructors working hard to provide quality arts education in our schools."

The 'Young Masters' exhibit has been open since April 2.
