The extensive renovation of the Hannibal riverfront begins in earnest this week.

The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department announced that the riverfront is now closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until the work is completed.

The $6.6-million dollar project includes the construction of a new boat ramp and expanded docking sites to accommodate multiple large cruise ships, along with moving of and improvements to Nipper and Kiwanis Parks.

The work is being done by Bleigh Construction, along with Board of Public Works and Parks and Rec employees.

The riverfront renovation is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019.
