Hannibal Police say the first month of an ongoing drug take back program yields nearly 40 pounds of unwanted medications.

The program started April first. Hannibal Police Chief Lyndell Davis says the drug take back program provides multiple benefits for the community including disposal of drugs which helps prevent drug abuse. Unwanted drugs are also often flushed down the toilet. That can lead to toxins being released into the soil. You can take your unwanted prescription or over the counter medications to the lobby of the Hannibal Police Department where an officer will assist you. Collection times are from 8 a-m until 4 p-m Monday through Friday.
