CANTON, Mo. (AP) - Two men from southern Illinois are dead after the small plane they were in crashed in a pasture near Canton Wednesday night.
Lewis County Sheriff David Parrish identifies the victims as 74-year-old John Johnson of Carbondale and 47-year-old Carl Maiden of DuQuoin.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the cause isn't yet known but the FAA is investigating. It wasn't clear which man was the pilot.
Molinaro said the Piper Apache plane did not have a flight plan. Sheriff Parrish says it is believed the plane took off from an airport in Pinckneyville, Illinois, and was en route to an antique air show in Iowa.
