Letter From Lincoln Brings Thousands at Carthage Auction

(Carthage, Ill)—The letter sold for $11,000 at auction yesterday, but it wasn’t just any letter, it was an authentic letter signed by President Abraham Lincoln.

The letter was sent to a Warsaw, Illinois journalist named Thomas Gregg and was a thank you for a poem Gregg had written. The auction was held at Sullivan and Sons Auction Center in Carthage Saturday morning.

The buyer is reportedly from the Denver area.
