Independence-area law enforcement officers arrested 25 people after city health inspectors investigated two motels.

The sweep on Wednesday at a Budget Inn Motel and the Sports Stadium Inn Motel led to the Budget Inn's closing because of health code violations.

The Independence Examiner reports the sweep occurred after authorities received several complaints of criminal activity at the motels. Police spokesman Tom Gentry says Independence police have responded to about 300 calls per motel since January of this year.

Gentry says 17 males and eight females were arrested. Police issued 52 warrants. The felony and misdemeanor arrests included felony and misdemeanor charges of drug activity and one count of giving false information.
