March 19, 1948 should have been like any typical morning in these Illinois communities. An incoming storm system had other plans. By the time most would wake that morning, a monster tornado had nearly wiped away 4 Illinois towns completely and took 60 lives.

An intense storm system has brought severe winds to Iowa as new video shows hurricane-force winds that pounded the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area Monday.

If you blinked, you missed it. There is confirmation from the National Weather Service that a tiny tornado did indeed touch down (briefly) and sneak through Branson, Missouri just prior to the Fourth of July.

Yes, it's true that Missouri is about to be impacted by a real hurricane. No, it will not (hopefully) be a hurricane once it arrives, but whatever remains of Hurricane Beryl after it makes landfall will almost certainly impact Missouri hard.

This proves that I pay attention to Missouri meteorologists more than they likely think. I saw a discussion among forecasters where the mention of unstable air over the state late Friday could mean some suddenly violent weather results. The problem is with the uncertainty of some key variables.

It's no secret that wind and hail were a big part of the waves of thunderstorms that roared through Missouri Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. One weather station in the state confirmed that winds exceeded hurricane force on at least one occasion.

Since this is Missouri weather we're talking about, everything is changeable. However, you need to know that it's entirely possible and perhaps even likely that much of Missouri could be impacted by a major widespread wind damage event overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

Hope for the best while you prepare for the worst. That would be a good phrase to keep in mind Monday as most of Wisconsin faces the potential for a widespread damaging wind event based on computer models just shared.

It's not breaking news that you can expect summer to be hot in Missouri, but there are forecasts that seem to agree that the state may be about to start one of the warmest in history and it also might be one of the stormiest, too.
