The Quincy School Board met Thursday morning and ratified a one-year contract with the Quincy Federation of Teachers and Educational Support Personnel.
The employment of Sean Taylor as head basketball coach of the Quincy Senior High Blue Devils came to an end this morning. The Quincy School Board voted to remove him, according to Quincy Herald-Whig. School Board President Stephanie Erwin made the announcement after the board voted 6 to nothing to remove Taylor from his basketball position.
Today marks the first day of school for the Quincy Public School District, and with it will come decisions to be made by the School Board on a variety of issues. One such issue is random drug testing of students. The Board will meet at Ellington School at 7 p.m. tonight to discuss the drug testing issue.
The 2013 Election to decide the next Mayor for the City of Quincy is underway. The polls opened this morning at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. Incumbent Democratic Mayor John Spring, looking for a third term as Mayor, is being challenged by Third Ward Republican councilman Kyle Moore.
