With forecasters predicting high temperatures hotter than a firecracker as the 4th of July approaches, a Heat Advisory has been posted for northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

Missouri is bracing for a potentially dangerous round of summer heat. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning or watch for much of the state through Saturday.

As the summer's first heat wave continues, the chance for rain and somewhat cooler temperatures wait in the wings for northeast Missouri and western Illinois.
