Let the Hannibal festival season begin. Even though the long-range forecast for this weekend calls for a chance of snow Friday, cold Saturday and a tolerable Sunday (not very spring-like), the first of Hannibal's plethora of weekend festivals kicks off with the 11th annual Chocolate Extravaganza.
One of the many things you gotta love about this place we call America's Hometown is that, yes, we have our marquee celebrations throughout the year, from the Chocolate Extravaganza in March to the Folk Life Festival in October.
A nearly half-century downtown Hannibal dining tradition is coming to an end. In a Facebook post last week, the announcement came that Ole Planters Restaurant would be closing for good November 30.
