Updated NWS Forecast Says Missouri & Illinois in for Wet Winter

If you don't like snow, it would be best to not look at the updated long-range forecast from the National Weather Service. If it's accurate, both Missouri and Illinois could be in for a very wet winter.

There are some important things to note here first. #1 - This is the likelihood in percentages of whether (no pun intended) Missouri and Illinois get above average precipitation for December 2022 through February 2023. #2 - This is weather so predictions can and will change the closer we get to 2023. That being said, notice that Missouri and Illinois are both in the green for "expect above average" precipitation late this year and early in 2023.

Let's get specific. The immediate Hannibal, Missouri/Quincy, Illinois area are in the 33 to 40% chance of getting above average precipitation for December 2022 through February 2023. For west central Illinois, that increases to 50 to 60% chance of greater than average precipitation.

Now let's all take a deep breath and understand this is a long-range forecast and not necessarily for next week (or so I hope). It's just a good idea to look ahead and see where the winter weather predictions are trending so we can prepare ahead of time for what might (remember, I said MIGHT) be headed our way over the winter months.
