Secret Reason Telescope Moved from Illinois Woods To California?
I have come across a connection that may be purely coincidental, but I've come across a potential real and secret reason why a telescope was moved from deep in the Illinois woods to California more than 40 years ago. Could it be because of an urgent search for Planet X?
Let's begin with what we know to be fact. Prairie Observatory near Oakland, Illinois was active until April 1, 1981 when it closed suddenly. It had a 40-inch telescope that was valued at nearly a quarter million dollars. The University of Illinois confirms that the telescope was transported to Mount Laguna Observatory in San Diego, California. But, why?
In January of 1983, both The New York Times and Washington Post reported that "SOMETHING out there beyond the farthest reaches of the known solar system seems to be tugging at Uranus and Neptune". The articles went on to talk about how groups were studying the possibility that the SOMETHING could be a Planet X and they were located in California. Call Mulder and Scully, something is happening on the west coast.
Here's where it gets interesting. I got curious about what is so special about that particular location in California and found a Los Angeles Times article from June of 1985 which said that "the Laguna location is well-suited to look at eclipsing binary stars". NASA admits that mathematically-speaking, there is reason to believe that there really is a Planet X in theory. They say "the prediction is based on detailed mathematical modeling and computer simulations, not direct observation."
Here's where speculation begins to get dangerously close to conspiracy theory. There are many that believe if a Planet X exists, it may have a twin making it a binary star system. It's perhaps purely coincidence that within a year or two of the telescope leaving the Illinois woods for a place in California where binary star system viewing is optimal that we suddenly start hearing reports (from California) of the possibility of a Planet X.
The truth is out there (or maybe I should say "up there").
