Dozens of Petco Stores Closing—One Illinois Site Already Gone

It's been a tough year for retail and also a difficult year for pet owners. Those two worlds appear to be colliding as there are reports that Petco plans to close dozens of stores and there's one location in Illinois that has locked its doors forever already.

Petco is not the only retailer that has been forced to close locations this year

There's a new report that was just published this week from Fast Company that says Petco "is closing dozens of stores". This plan to close locations was reportedly revealed during the most recent earnings call from Petco. It says that in 2025, they plan to close a total of 25 stores. Locations in 11 states have been impacted already and that includes the Petco that was at 4840 N Pulaski Road in Chicago, Illinois. I have confirmed via reviewers on Yelp that this Petco in Illinois has now shut its doors.

That still leaves almost another dozen Petco locations to close before the year is over. What stores will be next? The earnings report from Petco does not specify. The Petco store locator shows that there are still 52 locations that remain open in Illinois. Let's hope none of these are impacted by the next round of closures before 2025 is done.
