Ever read something and immediately nod your head and think to yourself "yeah, that sounds about right"? I predict many will experience that emotion when they see a new study that ranks roads in Missouri and Illinois among the worst in America.

If you drive across Missouri on I-70, this is a common sight

Study Finds has just shared a brand new ranking revealing the states with the worst roads in America. Guess which states both made the top 10? That's right. Congratulations Missouri and Illinois. Illinois is ranked 3rd and Missouri is 8th in America for having terrible highways and roads.

How did they decide what states have the worst roads?

Each state was scored in 3 different categories: share of roads in bad condition, miles of highways in poor condition and the number of complaints in each state about potholes. Side note: the pothole where Highway 61 and Highway 24 meet in eastern Missouri is a bear. Missouri has a sky-high pothole complaint ranking and Illinois gets dinged for the more than 6,000 miles of highway in poor condition. Yes, that sounds about right to me.

I have friends that work for MODOT and this isn't a complaint about them. If anything, this should inspire the lawmakers that are in charge of allocating funds to fix those roads and highways we complain about to put their money where our mouth is. Then again, perhaps those of us in Missouri and Illinois are fated to meet potholes.
