Missouri sees its fair share of earthquakes thanks to the New Madrid Fault, but not often in this place. There was a weird quake very early Saturday confirmed by the USGS at Bull Shoals Lake on Missouri's southern border.

According to the USGS, there was an earthquake centered just off of one of the inlets at Bull Shoals Lake at 12:07am on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

It was only a magnitude 2 quake which is not capable of doing any damage and even campers or fishermen in the area wouldn't have felt it.

What is interesting is the University of Memphis has a map showing this new quake is in a part of Bull Shoals Lake that has seen numerous quakes over the past 6 months.

It's strange for such a serene lake between Missouri and Arkansas to suddenly become a mini-quake swarm hotspot. Go figure.

A magnitude 2 earthquake is nothing more than a curiosity. It's the location that makes it interesting. A tiny quake like this is no big deal, but if many other quakes follow in the region, then that would justify some more attention. As it stands right now, it's just a strange start to the weekend on one of Missouri and Arkansas' most popular fishing destinations.
