If you enjoy very cold wind chills, you're already having a great week as there are 12 Illinois places that have recorded 20 below wind chills and it's about to get much much worse.

The National Weather Service in Chicago warned us that for the period of Sunday, January 19 through Tuesday, January 21, the last day would by far be the worst. Here's something remarkable that's already happened. As of early Monday morning, there are already 12 Illinois places that have 20 below wind chills.

Here are the forecast wind chills for Tuesday morning, January 21. Those 20 below wind chills are gonna be even colder.

The middle part of the NWS graphic is something that everyone should pay attention to. Wind chills could reach 30 below zero in some parts of northern Illinois. That means that those exposed to the elements for periods of 30 minutes or more are in danger of hypothermia and/or frostbite. Frozen pipes in homes are also a risk with the combination of bitterly cold temperatures and crazy wind chills.

With ice jams possible, there could be very rapid river rises that could happen with no warning. The good news is that this nearly record cold snap won't last long as somewhat normal January temperatures will return by later this week. In the meantime, brace yourself for the most dangerous day of wind chills which is yet to come.
