17 Years Later, FBI Arrest in Missouri Officer Murder Case
After 17 years, the FBI has made an arrest in the case of a Missouri police officer who was gunned down when he was off-duty.
The FBI in St. Louis just announced this breakthrough in a case that's been unsolved since 2008. They said working with the local law enforcement investigators was key to cracking the case of the murder of Officer Demond Taylor.
According to a press release shared by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police, Officer Taylor worked at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. Early in the evening of June 20, 2008, police responded to the 5100 block of Page Boulevard where Officer Taylor was found shot and deceased at the scene. He was not on duty and not in uniform. They say that after years of investigation which included the FBI and local law enforcement they have arrested a "46-year-old man, who was 29 at the time of the crime". The name of the suspect has not been released. They did share a statement from St. Louis Community College:
“St. Louis Community College expresses its gratitude to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and all law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation that led to the arrest of a suspect in the tragic killing of Officer Demond Taylor. Officer Taylor, a respected member of the STLCC Police Department assigned to Florissant Valley Campus, was fatally shot in 2008. There was no indication that his shooting was related to his employment. We hope solving this case brings comfort to Officer Taylor’s colleagues and family.”
