It seems like a noble cause. A company in Illinois based around the concept of helping people rent on their way to ownership has suddenly announced mass layoffs which will result in 179 people being out of work.

According to their company description on LinkedIn, Home Partners of America, Inc is a company that works to provide a path to home ownership to those who would otherwise not qualify. Sadly, it looks like there's been a turn for the worse as the Illinois Work Net site shows a new WARN notice alerting the state that they will be laying off 179.

The reason given on the Illinois state jobs site says "mass layoffs" is the reason for this decision.

Inman News reported that back in January or 2023, Home Partners of America, Inc laid off 10% of their workforce at that time. This seems to be a much more far-reaching layoff affecting many more workers.

It's obviously a challenge to get yourself into a position where home ownership is possible. I don't have any first-hand experience with Home Partners or companies like them, but I'm never happy when home ownership paths become harder for those that want and need it.
