He carried out 3 violent carjackings in Illinois at gunpoint, but now a Chicago man will face decades in prison for his crimes.

The FBI in Chicago, Illinois has just shared the fate of a man who has been convicted of 3 violent carjackings which includes the shooting of one victim.

The United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Illinois added more details about the crimes committed and the sentence that has resulted. They say that Jamari Edwards, 23, of Chicago has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for three carjackings in August of 2022 in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. The first carjacking happened in the drive-thru of a coffee shop. After the driver gave him the keys and exited the vehicle, Edwards shot the man in the leg after asking him “Why are you not scared?”. The other two carjackings happened near convenience stores that same month. All of the carjackings involved the perpetrator aiming his weapon at the victims. Edwards was arrested after those crimes and has been in law enforcement custody ever since. Edwards pled guilty to federal carjacking and firearm charges. He will now spend more than two decades behind bars.
