Not sure if you can even consider this a "grocery" store but this new list does and it has me scratching my head.

When you think of a grocery store you think of organized aisles with food to purchase. There is a produce aisle, a frozen food aisle, and a dairy aisle. You get the picture. So when I saw that a non-grocery store was at the number one spot for most popular it had me question what is considered a grocery store.

#1 Grocery Store in the Nation

No it's not Hy-Vee, Kroger, Trader Joe's, and even Walmart. Nope, according to YouGov 7-Eleven is the nation's most popular "grocery" store.

Wait...what?1?1?1

Yup, 7-Eleven. Based on the 2024 Q4 report 7-Eleven has 65% of the popular vote when it comes to grocery stores. Followed by Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Market, and Aldi's (which has been number one for several years).

How Did They Come Up With This Report?

Apparently, YouGov makes the biggest effort to find out what America thinks. They do this by publishing popularity scores for thousands of things. So according to their results, Americans love shopping at 7-Eleven. Here's the issue they are mostly on the East Coast.

Most convenience stores sell groceries, but I wouldn't consider them a grocery store. It has to be the Slurpee drinks you can get at 7-Elevens. You buy that and a few snacks sure it's a hot spot.

There are a few in Illinois (mainly Chicago) and less than 10 in Missouri and the further west you go the less 7-Elevens there are. How is it that they are number one then?

Just like we want to know how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? The world may never know.
