When you think about which sandwich is popular in Missouri you might say a tenderloin or maid-rite, but according to a website, it's a sandwich that I have never heard of.

A new list came out from MSN debating which "Must-Have" Sandwich you have to try in each state, and the one they picked for Missouri has me scratching my head a little bit. They picked the Hot Salami sandwich which is a thick-sliced salami served sandwich you can find at Gioia's in St. Louis. Now, I am not saying this sandwich doesn't look good because it does, but I feel like there are other sandwiches that should be a must-have, like a maid-rite or tenderloin.

The thick-sliced salami served at Gioia's in St. Louis is beyond anything you've bought in a shrink-wrapped package at the supermarket. The peppery meat is simply topped with cheese, lettuce and tomato, but it still might change your life.

For Illinois, no surprise, they chose the Italian Beef sandwich and in Iown the Loose Meat Sandwich, a.k.a the Maid-Rite. In recent finds, another St. Louis sandwich was considered the most iconic in the state and that honor went to the St. Paul sandwich. You can find that particular sandwich in an unexpected place...a Chiense-American restaurant in St. Louis.

When it comes to these "best of state" articles I tend to not think too much into them, every state is huge and every state has its own staple and every town has its own thing so you just never know what "best of Missouri" will make a list.
