Illinois Students Team Up with Waterfowl Group to Help Ducks
There is a particular tradition of building bird houses in the North America. Initially it was to make sure there were birds where people were to cut down on insect populations. This custom continues today.
We have a Wren house in our backyard built by a local crafter from Quincy, Illinois. It’s fun to see the tiny birds flit about. Another local gentleman built and maintained Bluebird houses around Adams County for years before he passed. Certainly, these birds cut down on bugs in our backyard, but we enjoy watching them spend portions of their lives in proximity to us.
With the idea of helping out, and putting practical application to class work, High school students from Waterloo, Illinois built wood duck boxes in “construction class”.
Volunteers from Delta Waterfowl guided the students out into Randolph County to install the wooden duck boxes, explaining the importance of the boxes and waterfowl conservation.
