Illinois Governor Called to DC to Testify About State Sanctuary Status
The state of Illinois has found itself at odds with the Federal government when it comes to funds for certain things. The Federal funds are being withheld due to Illinois’ refusal to comply with Federal rules about working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

J.B. Pritzker, Governor of Illinois has been called to Washington D.C. along with New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to speak to their states approach to illegal immigrants by claiming sanctuary state status.
Governors called to testify
In Illinois sanctuary status keeps law enforcement from cooperating with U.S. ICE while also providing access to state drivers licenses and/or a state ID. This expands on the TRUST Act that was signed into law in 2017 by then Governor Bruce Rauner. The U.S. Department of Justice has sued Illinois over its sanctuary state position.

Governor Pritzker has stated that this House Oversight Committee hearing June 12 is little more than theater. Pritzker however has his eyes on the Presidency of the United States and this hearing provides a high profile stage for him to grab the national spotlight.
US House Oversight Committee
No Illinois Representatives are on the House Oversight Committee, but there are sure to be soundbite moments with Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Jim Jordan of Ohio all getting turns to put Governor Pritzker under the national heat lamp.
