You may have a fruit tree in your backyard. Probably an apple tree of some type. Maybe a peach tree, or cherry tree. That plum tree might make you some money this summer though.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says they are willing to buy your plums – or even your red mulberries if you have a mulberry tree.

The Department claim they will pay $6 per pound of red mulberries (as of now) and $1.95 per pound of wild plums starting July 7th.

The state says this is part of their “Early Seed Buy Season” program, which will expand later this year as more varieties of species ripen.

The MDC are specific about what they are looking for. They want red mulberries not white mulberries. If you are unsure on what you have, you can check by showing the leaves to the MDC before harvesting. The plums they desire are ripe, red, orange or yellow plums. If it isn’t ripe (still green in any way) they won’t accept it -or pay.
