According to Fox News, lawmakers in the Land of Lincoln are about to make history as the first state to ban book banning, kinda confusing right? Here is what they are saying...

"Illinois lawmakers greenlighted a bill Wednesday that says libraries in the state must adopt an anti-book banning policy to receive state funding, in a vote that fissured along party lines. The measure, spearheaded by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, represents a counter-movement to growing efforts to restrict books on topics such as race, gender and sexuality in schools and libraries across the United States. The legislation has passed both chambers and now heads to the desk of Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who said he looks forward to signing it."

So if I am reading this correctly libraries can still ban books if they want BUT then they are subject to losing state funding which is a huge part of what keeps a lot of libraries open. Book banning gets a lot of people fired up on the internet and it is easy to see why, people want to feel like they have the freedom to read and write whatever they want, but people also have the right to say that is offensive and inappropriate. Personally, my biggest issue has always been "Who decides what to ban and what not to ban" Who died and made who the "King of Books", America is, and should always be, about the freedom to choose. BUT having said that...I do think there are certain things that would be inappropriate for certain ages of people to read, but that's my personal opinion, what makes this such a divisive argument is that not everyone's view of what is and isn't appropriate is the same. Where do you fall on this issue? And do you agree with this new law here in the Land of Lincoln?
