We are lucky here in the Tri-States to have some great local bbq restaurants. The Rebel Pig in Palmyra, Big Bro's BBQ & Catering Food Truck, Riverside BBQ & Grill in Quincy, and Fatbacks BBQ in Quincy, but if you are wanting to travel outside of the Tri-States these Missouri and Illinois BBQ joints might be worth the trip. Thrillist put together a list of some of the very best bbq joints in America you just have to try, and two Missouri restaurants made the list.

Harp Barbecue

OK, this one is now on my restaurant bucket list. Harp Barbecue is located in Kansas City so you know it's already good just by being in KC. The chef watched his father as a child in the backyard cooking and grilling and now Tyler Harp owns his own bbq restaurant to share with the world, and the menu looks amazing.

He started cooking in his backyard and selling briskets out of his driveway before securing a spot at Crane Brewing. Now you can check Saturday specials like chopped beef sandos and Texas-sliced brisket. Then wash it down with a corn lager or farmhouse IPA.

 

Pappy's Smokehouse

I've actually heard of this one and have tried a few times to get in but this place is always packed and for good reason. Located in St. Louis Pappy's is known for being low and slow, never reheated, and their BBQ sauce you can buy and take home to enjoy. They not only have two store locations, but a food truck, and just like Haro, their menu looks so good.

Look, when it comes to bbq I HATE working for my food. Rids, chicken, need to be shredded, however, looking at both of these restaurant's menus I could make an exception and go outside my comfort zone.
