A Kansas City man was taken to the Shelby County Jail after he fled a two vehicle crash on US 36 late Monday afternoon.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says an SUV driven by 31 year old Roderick Strong of Kansas City hit the rear of a pickup driven by 56 year old James Racich of Munster Indiana as Strong was attempting to pass near Lentner. . Racich’s pickup went off the road and came to rest in a field. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment.

Strong’s vehicle sustained extensive damage and Strong fled into a farm field. He was apprehended just over an hour later. Strong is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash… driving while suspended… possession of marijuana…unlawful use of drug paraphernalia… careless and imprudent driving and failure to wear a seat belt.
