If you like a good slab of ribs and you appreciate what our fighting men and women have done for our country, mark Saturday May 23 on your calendar.

That's the date for the first Wounded Warrior Rib Fest Cookout, hosted by Harpole's Heartland Lodge Sunset Valley Lodge in rural Nebo, Illinois.

Gates open at 9:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 10. Music begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 7:30 p.m. Featured bands include Black Suede, Country Soul, Stomping Ground and The Harmans Bluegrass.

There will also be live and silent auctions through the day. And, of course there will be ribs with all the sides available starting at around 11 a.m.

The only charge for the day is a free will donation, with all the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

For more information, contact Kenny Hubbard at 217-734-9239 or visit Heartland Lodge online.
