Illinois State Police say three people have died in a single-vehicle crash south of Macomb.

Police say the wreck was reported early Thursday in McDonough County. They say a Jeep driven by 21-year-old Gabrielle Yocum of Springfield went off the right side of the road and traveled more than 220 feet through a ditch. The car hit a tree and an embankment. It's unclear what caused the crash.

Yocum, 23-year-old Cedric Huffman of Bushnell and 21-year-old Cassie Roberts of Macomb died in the wreck. Twenty-three-old passenger Justin Beer was hospitalized. His condition wasn't immediately clear.

State police said all four were wearing seat belts. The accident remains under investigation.

Officials at Western Illinois University say Yocum and Huffman were students at the school.
