Wednesday’s Thunderstorms put down almost a month’s worth of rain for Hannibal.
The official reporting station at the Hannibal Filter Plant recorded 3.39 inches of rain Wednesday. The average for the month of June in Hannibal is 3.46 inches. Weather records for Hannibal date back to the mid 1890’s. Rainfall totals varied from an inch at Quincy Regional Airport to 5.6 inches near Monroe City.

Lightning is blamed for at least two fires in the area. Quincy Tri Township firefighters were called to 1131 Spring Lake Road for a shed fire at 4:30 p-m. Lightning also caused a fire in Shelbina.

Wind blew branches out of trees across the area. Wind also damaged a billboard at the Illinois 96/US 24 junction north of Quincy, damaged a utility pole along Illinois 96 south of Ursa and flattened several cornfields between Quincy and Ursa along Illinois 96.
