ST. LOUIS (AP) - Madison Bumgarner pitched shutout ball into the eighth inning and the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 Saturday night in the NL Championship Series opener.

Adam Wainwright struggled again for the Cardinals. Game 2 is Sunday night at 7:00 p.m.  (Pregame on KHMO begins at  6:12).

BALTIMORE (AP) - The Kansas City Royals still haven't lost a playoff game since Game 4 of the 1985 World Series. They will head home with a two-games-to-none lead in the American League Championship Series after winning in their final at-bat for the second straight night, and fifth time in the postseason.

Alcides  Escobar sparked a two-run ninth as the Royals downed the Orioles 6-4 in Baltimore. Escobar supplied a tiebreaking, RBI double before scoring on Lorenzo Cain's single.

Cain went 4-for-5 with two runs scored for the Royals, who are 6-0 in the playoffs and own a nine-game postseason win streak since the 1985 World Series.
