Vacant Office Changes

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri Senate panel is endorsing a proposed referendum that would change the way vacancies in statewide offices are filled. The measure would limit the governor's ability to appoint people to certain posts. Instead, the governor would be able to appoint a temporary replacement who would fill in until a special election can be held.
