(Hannibal)—Hannibal’s Common Ground Community Garden was an appropriate setting to kick off the United Way of the Mark Twain Area’s new campaign Thursday evening.

The theme of the 2013-14 campaign is “Grow a Better Tomorrow”.  Campaign Chair Mike McFarlane says the ceremonial planting of sunflower seeds at the community garden symbolizes what the United Way is all about—helping people grow and have a better future for themselves.

Those attending enjoyed musical entertainment and snacks, and had the opportunity to meet with United Way staff and hear inspiring comments from the Campaign Chairmen.

The Goal for the fall campaign is $577,000.  The United Way of the Mark Twain area helps fund over thirty-five human service programs in Northeast Missouri.

A number of special events are planned this fall, including A Day of Caring, Taste of Missouri, and the United Way/KHMO Radio Auction.
