The final push is underway in the United Way of the Mark Twain Area's annual fundraising campaign.

The agency set a goal of $580,000 for 2015 and, according to Executive Director Frank Ditillo, that goal is in sight, but they're not there yet. Ditillo says that allocations to the agencies that benefit from United Way are based on reaching that campaign goal.

Also right around the corner is the beginning of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Volunteers have gone through the training and stand ready to do simple income tax preparation for income eligible northeast Missourians, beginning the first week in February.

Anyone who would like their taxes done through the VITA program is asked to call Douglass Community Services to make an appointment at 573-221-3892, extension 247.
