Two Canton men are arrested Sunday as the result of an investigation by authorities in Lewis County.

Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies and Missouri State troopers were called to the Benjamin area in northern Lewis County Sunday on a report of an individual stealing from vehicles and breaking into garages. An investigation resulted in the arrest of 22 year old Caleb Lovell of Canton for second degree burglary.

Meanwhile, 74 year old James McGruder of rural Canton, was told by a neighbor that her garage had been burglarized and that McGruder’s garage may have been broken into as well.

As a result, McGruder is alleged to have fired two shots into a vehicle, occupied by two men not involved in the burglaries.

McGruder was arrested by authorities for unlawful use of a weapon.
Both Lovell and McGruder are in the Lewis County Jail on $25,000 bond each.
