Two Brothers Arrested for Attempted Burglary

Two Maywood men allegedly trying to steal copper… instead find themselves staring at the metal of a jail cell.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports 21 year-old David J. Schmidt, and 19 year-old Daniel O. Schmidt, both of Maywood,  were arrested July 1. The brothers are charged with 2nd Degree attempting to commit burglary, a class E Felony.

Authorities say a local citizen caught the Schmidt brothers trespassing at an abandoned house near Maywood on May 19th. Upon further investigation, authorities say the two were attempting to enter the property and steal copper.

Both men are lodged in the Lewis County Jail on $10,000 cash only bonds.
