A new capital counsel public defender has asked for a change of venue in the case of a Hannibal man accused of a homicide and a shooting in Marion County last year.

36 year old Timothy Brokes, Jr. is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of 30 year old Brittany Gauch in Hannibal in January of 2016, and first degree assault and armed criminal action in the shooting of her husband, 32 year old Aaron Gaugh, the same day.

Marion County Prosecutor David Clayton announced recently that he will seek the death penalty against Brokes.

Brokes also faces charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and hindering prosecution of a felony in Monroe County in connection with the shooting of Monroe City Police officer Travis Pugh.

Brokes’ next court date in Marion County is set for November 1st. He is being held in the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri, where he is serving time on a separate possession charge.
