2012 is nearly over. We had a presidential election and an anticlimactic apocalypse. Now we look ahead towards 2013. What would you most like to see in the new year? What are you most looking forward to? Here's our list, so far. You're invited to add to it by leaving a message in the comments section below.

1. A cooler summer

It was so hot last summer. Most of us are OK with a little bit of hot weather, but day after day after day of extreme temperatures is exhausting. We're hoping the summer of 2013 won't be as intense.

2. St. Louis Blues hockey

The NHL lockout has to end sometime, right? It remains to be seen how much of a season, if any, there will be for 2012-2013, but if we're lucky, everything will be back to normal at this time next year.

3. New restaurants

Texas Roadhouse will be opening soon in Quincy. It's next to GameMasters and Bed Bath & Beyond. We're also anticipating the re-opening of the new Sprouts Inn, following the fire that destroyed the longtime Quincy business in June.

4. Comedy

The LMAO Comedy Series is coming to Quincy. This new comedy series will kick off on Friday, January 18 at the State Room. Tickets are $10 for general admission, and $20 for VIP seats. Advanced tickets are available at Second String Music, Bailey's Coffee House & Fudge Shop, and Java Jive.

5. Theater

Quincy Community Theatre's 2013 lineup is looking pretty good. Highlights include a Family/Student Theater production of 'Peter Pan' in June, '9 to 5' in July, 'The War of the Worlds' in October, and 'The Wizard of Oz' next November.

6. Annual events

We are pretty lucky to have a ton of fun annual events all around the area. National Tom Sawyer Days, county fairs, the Dogwood Festival, the Pike County Fall Color DriveMidsummer Arts Faire, the Autumn Historic Folklife Festival, the Early Tin Dusters Fall Color Run, 50 Miles of Art, the K of C BBQ and Taste of Palmyra are just a few that come to mind.
