Come October 1, the Hannibal Red Cross will be no more.

As part of a statewide cost-saving effort, the Northeast Missouri Chapter will consolidate with the Greater St. Louis Region. The merger is expected to save more than $87,000 a year.

In the news release sent out Friday, officials say the consolidation is expected to better employ regional staff, volunteers and pool resources to support the Northeast Missouri communities in Marion, Ralls, Pike, Shelby, Monroe,Lewis and Clark counties.
